Google doesn’t value duplicate content. But this is not the only reason why you should fill your website with original and high-quality content. If you want your occasional visitors to become regular, you should give them something they will like.
Key Qualities of Great Website Content
To make users want to come to your website for the first time and visit it again, make sure the web content meets the following criteria:
- Readable and error-free.
Make sure the information on your website is well readable. The font color should contrast with the background color, and the interval between lines shouldn’t be too tight. Use lists where possible. They bring structure to your content making it more digestible. And of course proofread your content before uploading. Grammatical errors may alienate your readers making them think you are incompetent.
As mentioned before, Google penalizes duplicating content, and at least you need to rehash your content to avoid being banned. But great website content should also offer readers new ideas, opinions and perspectives. Otherwise, nobody will be willing to share links to it.
- Has catchy headlines.
Pay special attention to creating good headlines. Most people will not read an article if a headline doesn’t arouse interest. Therefore, not only briefly convey the meaning of your article in a headline but also make sure it sounds seductive, promising or even provocative.
- Contains images and videos.
Unless you present on your website extracts from fiction works, always supplement text with visual information. Not only does visual information draw more attention, but it also makes it easier to grasp what it is all about. Some small diagram may explain your reader more than an extensive description.
- Updated regularly.
Whatever information you present on your website, it should be regularly updated. It’s up to you to decide how often to update your site, but be aware: the frequency of update will influence the ranking of your site by Google. Rarely updated sites never appear on the first page of search results.
- Be to-the-point.
Remember: the longer your post is, the lower the probability that it will be read to the end. As a rule, long posts are vaguer in delivering the message even if their language is clear.
Inaccuracy in reporting and sourcing of information may lead to distrust among customers. It will be difficult to convince somebody that your content is reliable once the opposite has been revealed. Substantiate your reports with as many links to other websites as possible, but make sure you are referring to trustworthy resources only.
